Since August 15, 2023, the Vietnamese government has permitted issuing electronic visas (E-visas) to citizens of all countries and territories worldwide. There are several types of e-visas, but when classified by entry purpose, there are two main types: Tourist E-visa and Business E-visa.
In this article, you'll find the latest updated information on the E-visa for business purposes (Business visa). We'll cover when you need to apply for a Business Evisa, how to apply, and important considerations when using one.
1. When Do You Need to Apply for a Business Visa?
As you may know, most visitors come to Vietnam for tourism, so a tourist visa is the most common choice. However, if you wish to enter Vietnam for commercial purposes, including buying and selling goods, providing services, investment, trade promotion, signing contracts, visiting factories, signing labor contracts with businesses in Vietnam, etc., a Business visa is required.
Previously, before the e-visa policy, Vietnamese businesses that wanted to invite foreign citizens to Vietnam for commercial activities (working, transacting, signing contracts, etc.) had to prepare a complex sponsorship dossier and submit it directly to the Immigration Department, waiting for approval, which could take 7-10 working days.
The process is much simpler with the e-visa. Businesses and foreign citizens can now submit applications online through the Vietnamese government's E-visa system, eliminating the need for in-person submissions.
2. How to Apply for a Business E-visa for Foreign Citizens
First, to apply for a Business E-visa, you must meet the general requirements for visa consideration and issuance for foreign citizens as set by the Vietnamese government.
General Requirements for All Foreign Citizens Wishing to Apply for an E-visa to Enter Vietnam:
- The foreign citizen must possess a valid passport with at least 6 months remaining validity and at least one blank page.
- The E-visa applicant must be outside of Vietnamese territory. (If you currently reside in Vietnam, you are not eligible for an E-visa.)
- If the E-visa applicant has previously entered Vietnam, they must ensure they have not committed any violations during their previous stay.
Information/Documents to Prepare Before Applying for a Business E-visa:
- A clear itinerary of work activities in Vietnam.
- A legitimate address for accommodation in Vietnam.
- An emergency contact phone number.
- Information about the partner/business in Vietnam where the E-visa applicant will work, conduct business, provide services, or sign contracts (Name of the company, Business Registration Code, address, phone number, etc.).
- A portrait photo (You can use your phone to take a selfie) - The picture should be clear, with a collared shirt, no glasses, and no hat. (Note: The file should be an image file.)
- Passport copy (You can also use your phone to take a photo, make sure the whole page is visible and that no fingers are covering the text) (Note: The file should be an image file)
Once you have confirmed that you meet all the above requirements, you can begin the Business E-visa application process in one of two ways:
METHOD 1: Apply Directly Through the Vietnamese Government Website
Website link: https://evisa.gov.vn/e-visa/foreigners
Step 1: Upload the portrait image and passport copy you have prepared.
Step 2: Fill in the E-visa information
Section 1: PERSONAL INFORMATION
Fill in the information as it appears on your passport.
Note: One piece of advice is to fill in all the information, regardless of whether the Box is labeled red.
Section 2: REQUESTED INFORMATION
You need to make accurate selections here, as these choices will determine whether your E-visa, if approved, will be a single-entry or multiple-entry visa.
- Grant E-visa from: Choose the date on which the E-visa will become effective.
- To: Choose the date on which the E-visa will expire (You must exit Vietnam before the E-visa expires).
Note: The Visa term is entirely up to you, depending on your itinerary in Vietnam. However, you should register for a visa with a longer validity than the actual work schedule; this does not affect anything and will also be accepted by the Vietnam Immigration Department.
Section 3: PASSPORT INFORMATION
Please provide information such as the passport number, expiration date, passport type, and place of issue.
Section 4: CONTACT INFORMATION
Fill in your residential address, and an emergency contact number if required.
Section 5: OCCUPATION
Describe your current job in the country where you are living.
Section 6: INFORMATION ABOUT THE TRIP
This section is very important; you need to pay attention to the information boxes, such as:
Purpose of Entry: Here, you will choose the purpose of entry. If you want to apply for a Business visa, you need to choose Business
(The selected information will not be allowed to be changed after payment of the fee and confirmation of sending the application)
In addition, you also need to provide some information such as your address in Vietnam, contact phone number (can be a hotel or a relative's address)
Section 7: This is the section many visa applicants get wrong when traveling with children.
If you and your child share a passport (1 passport with two information), you must declare your child's information in section 7 (If your child is also traveling with you and needs a visa to enter Vietnam).
If your child has their passport, please do not declare it in section 7; your child will need to declare a separate profile.
Section 8: TRIP'S EXPENSES INSURANCE
You must provide additional information, such as your travel budget and insurance information (if any).
Finally, click NEXT to move to the next step.
Step 3: Recheck the information, then move to the next step.
Step 4: PAYMENT and confirmation
After completing all the above steps, you will receive an email notification from the Vietnam Immigration Department containing the registration code and confirming the payment. If the application is valid and complete, the Immigration Department will notify you of Evisa approval after 5-7 working days.
